BIOETHICAL ISSUES PROJECT
Objective: Students will research a bioethical issue and present the issue via an oral presentation accompanied by a Powerpoint.

Overview: This is a culminating project in forensics that addresses current bioethical issues. The goal is to understand the scientific principles behind these issues so that the student can make informed decisions as a citizen. The student will prepare a presentation to convince the audience that a particular bioethical issue is most deserving of the public’s attention and resources.

a. What is the issue? (Description)
b. What questions to you have about the issue?
c. What are the relevant arguments of this bioethical issue? Pros and cons?
a. How did it get started?
b. How did it emerge? Change?
c. How has it changed over time?
d. Scientific background and information
e. Key points / developments / major events
a. How does this issue effect society in the future?
b. How does this issue effect you now? The community?
c. Describe the process or the persons involved.
d. How does it effect a person’s rights?
e. Analyze the major alternative points of view.

(5) 50 points – Presentation shows outstanding understanding of the bioethical issue. It has 20 or more slides. The presenter(s) answer questions about the content of the slide show and where you got the information correctly and succinctly. The slides are easily readable on the screen with information “bulleted.” The use of graphics is appropriate to the topic and enhances understanding of the information. The use of special effects (transitions, animation, sound, video, etc.) directs the viewer’s attention to the content rather than being a distraction.
(4) 40 points – Presentation shows good understanding of the bioethical issue. It has 15 or more slides. The presenter(s) answer questions about the content of the slide show and where you got the information mostly correctly. The slides are readable on the screen with information “bulleted.” The use of graphics is appropriate to the topic and shows understanding of the information. The use of special effects (transitions, animation, sound, video, etc.) directs the viewer’s attention to the content rather than being a distraction.
(3) 30 points – Presentation shows some understanding of the bioethical issue. It has 10 or more slides. The presenter(s) are prepared to answer questions about the content of the slide show and where you got the information but is sometimes not clear. The slides are somewhat readable on the screen with information “bulleted.” The use of graphics is mostly appropriate to the topic and shows some understanding of the information. The use of special effects (transitions, animation, sound, video, etc.) directs the viewer’s attention to the content but can also be a distraction.
Below 30 needs to be redone.
